YOU DON’T HAVE THE POWER TO GIVE UP!
We have all been tempted from time to time to give up. With pressure from every side, moving forward can be the most difficult task to carry in the face of obstacles.
Unpaid balances, child-care, car loans, tuition and unfulfilled purposes are just a few cares of life that Jesus mentioned in His parable in Mark 4. Traditionally, some have been encouraged to walk away from challenges when it appears to be impossible to win. In sports, when victory seems evident, some opposing teams send in the backups as fans begin to exit the stadium.
Athletes have been trained from their toddler years that winning is everything, but there are several brilliant coaches who teach life long lessons through the agony of defeat. For every victory in life is foreshadowed by the appearance of defeat. Many have faced this reality and waved the white flag as they removed their footsteps from the battlefield.
If this sounds like you I write this not as a form of criticism, so excuse me for my frankness when I ask: Who gave you the power to give up?
Power Belongs To God
The Bible says in Psalms: “One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: Power belongs to you God,(Ps.62:11)
Every aspect of virtue in the universe and heavenly realms are governed by God. It is He who causes men and women to rise and fall in power. His nature will not allow Himself to approve of the abuse of power, yet He manages it according to His divine wisdom and order.
Scientist and many motivational speakers have convinced us that as tiny sperm cells each of us has fought to get here. We beat out millions of other micro sperm cells for the shared goal of becoming a person.
This message is delivered to remind us of our incredible determination to exist, but where is the resolve to remain?
If God has granted many blessings to us in life that are revealed slowly and progressively, who are we to decide His plans for us as if He needs anything?
We must be honest with ourselves and admit that we wield a power unjustly when we take the plunge off the mountain of faith. If my oldest daughter takes the keys to my car while I’m asleep, she has the power to ride anywhere the car takes her, but her ability is unmerited.
Use What’s Been Granted
Let us work to use the power that has been granted to us. We should desire to use our faith to hold fast while storms press against us. We must operate within the boundaries of patience when making life-changing decisions.
The title of this blog came from a conversation I had recently with a mom who contemplated suicide after a series of bad breaks in life, including a recent divorce. As she spoke, I felt the need to tell her that she didn’t have the power to do what she contemplated.
I said to her boldly that she didn’t have the right to leave her children.
I say the same to you friend. You can’t give up. You are so much closer now than before with the best days ahead of you! Don’t let a pitch-black past and a cloudy present keep you from a sparkling future!
Never. Ever. Give up.
